Brett Balsey is the president of BCA. This high performing executive has spent more than 27 years as an insurance broker and advisor, customizing products for clients while handling the daily administrative duties of running the firm.
In 1997, when he was being groomed to take over the largest real estate agency in Atlantic County, his father passed away suddenly, and that business was bought out from under him. That’s when he started his own firm, which grew into a well-respected mid-sized insurance agency.
Brett has a proven track record for building and developing a brokerage firm. He grew the company from $200,000 to $2.8 million in revenue as the lead producer while managing the agency. As part of his vision of continued growth, he brought in two well-respected partners, Larry Cohen and Nick Cashan.
Brett has been so successful because he treats clients like they are family. Developing close personal relationships with clients are hallmarks of BCA’s philosophy, one built on trust and responsiveness.
Lawrence Cohen has been executive vice president and a partner at BCA Insurance Group since 2012. This high performing professional services executive has spent more than 30 years delivering well-designed and thoughtful solutions for his clients worldwide.
Larry primarily services the major clients who require highly strategic, innovative answers. He navigates the intricacies of the policies and provides risk management advice that helps his clients reduce costs, while offering effective coverage and services.
He has a proven track record for growing and developing an organization. Since he joined, BCA, the firm has grown in five years from 8 employees to 21, more than doubled their client base, and nearly tripled in size, which he attributes to one word: integrity. He takes pride in the firm’s utmost respect for every client and employee, and the insurance companies with whom they work.
As a partner in the BCA Insurance Group, he is also responsible for attracting and retaining middle market clients by taking growth initiatives, such as the recent strategic affiliation with Saratoga Benefit Services. This was created to expand their capabilities in the employee benefits arena and provide the same caliber of service that BCA offers for their insurance risk-management clients.
In his down time, Larry shares his expertise while serving on two boards: The Advisory Board of Stockton University School of Business and the New Jersey Carnival and Amusement Safety Board. But when he takes a rare break from work, he spends his spare time engaging in cross-fit training.
Nick Cashan has been an insurance broker and advisor for BCA Insurance Group since 2013. He is the Resident Partner in the Marlton office. For more than 40 years, Nick has provided strategic risk-management solutions that solve complex problems for his middle market clients that meet the needs of their operation.
He grew up in a family-owned, insurance brokerage firm that he helped grow. After Nick sold it he continued working there, but he decided he wanted to be in a more entrepreneurial environment. He decided to take another approach that was a better fit for him. This well-seasoned broker joined BCA, a privately held, regional firm, because he wanted to work in a less restrictive environment with a firm that could be more nimble and creative, while providing hands-on service to its clients.
Nick understands the nuances of how his clients’ businesses work , the fundamentals about their products/services, their aversion to risk, and their company culture. He then takes that knowledge to deliver alternative solutions for his clients.
When he isn’t working with clients, you can find him presiding over the Atlantic Cape Community College Foundation Board or proposing initiatives for the Hammonton Chamber of Commerce. In his free time, he can be found testing out his new 5-iron at the driving range and, of course, spending time with his wife Linda and three grown children who have successfully settled in their respective careers.
